What Is Walk & Talk Therapy?
Walk-Talk therapy merges mindfulness with physical movement, offering clients a novel approach to relaxation, releasing tension, and gaining mind-body insight. Conversations unfold outdoors, where clients walk alongside me, fostering a comfortable atmosphere conducive to open sharing. In addition to what may be expected in a first therapy session, I will also discuss possible limitations and benefits of a Walk and Talk session. Then we will agree on a park, walking trail, or other nature setting. Sessions typically last anywhere from 45 to 90 minutes. The length of sessions will be discussed during the first therapy session and may fluctuate based on treatment needs.
A walk and talk therapy session may include:
Meeting at a local park, nature trail, or waterfront and walking side-by-side
Engaging in psychotherapy (talk therapy) while walking side-by-side
Sitting near water or a landscape at moments during the session
Brief meditation periods

Walk-Talk requires an initial intake counseling session conducted via online therapy and then begins with predetermined location, just as we would for an in-person session. Sessions begin and end on time.

Q: What about bad weather?
During bad weather walk and talk therapy will not be an option instead you will be offered tele-health session.
Q: Is this a cardio workout or personal training?
No, this is not personal training, and the client sets the pace. The focus is on your processing, and not on exercise although the body and mind connection can help “unstuck” when confronting difficult issues
There is nothing physically strenuous about the session.
Q: Can we switch back to the tele-health if I find I don’t enjoy this? Or can we alternate from week to week?
Absolutely it is your choice to take the session outdoors for a Walk & Talk session, or to remain inside the office if that is what you prefer. We respect your choice and honor what feels best for you.
Q: What about my confidentiality?
Because walk and talk therapy takes place in a natural setting, there could be nearby people who can hear parts of a session. Walk and talk therapy differs from office or online treatments because the therapist and client can’t control their environment. If by chance we happen to run into someone you know, then we will follow your lead. It is up to you to acknowledge the therapist if you chose to do so – the choice is up to you.
Q: What if you see someone you know?
Our focus and support are on you and the session continues without interruption. Inside or outside the office, we will always maintain your confidentiality and will not acknowledge you to anyone as our client without your signed permission.
Q: Can I bring my Dog to our Walk-Talk Session?
Yes, in most cases. When and where we will meet, the length of our session and your dog's personality and temperament will be considered in determining which if any sessions are appropriate for your dog to attend.
Q: I really like this idea of a walking session – is there anything else I should know in order to prepare?
